Success Habits
“Success is simple. Do the right thing, the right way at the right time.” Arnold H. Glasow
Easier said than done I’m sure you’re saying. How can I first, pick the right thing to do, know how to do it properly, and then time when I do it perfectly?
Habits are hard to break, and to create. But by narrowing our focus, and asking simple questions, we can embark on new, sustained actions that will eventually turn into good habits.
This time of year, fitness and nutrition seem to be on the forefront of many people’s minds. Without a doubt, if you are healthy, and treat your body right, other areas of your life will be impacted, and improved. The new year is certainly a time where additional emphasis is placed on making some adjustments to lifestyle and routine.
Whether you are a high performing athlete, or a working mom, creating some positive fitness and nutrition habits will offer many returns on the investment. Simply put, these improvements will compound benefits many times over, if executed properly.
Here are a few suggestions on how to make finding success a habit.
- Don’t multitask- choose one thing to do at a time and focus on doing it efficiently and effectively. Avoid taking your cell phone to the gym. Take the time to enjoy your food without being on Facebook during lunch.
- Don’t Balance…Counterbalance– If you train hard, recover just as hard. After a meal, be sure to take time and digest. All things, good and bad, need something to counter it.
- Create focus– what is one thing you can do today, that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary? Meal Prep on a Sunday to avoid being “too busy” make good nutrition choices throughout the week.
- Start BIG– Have big, long term goals. Small successes are great along the way, but to really make some impactful changes, you must set your sights on the BIG and SPECIFIC goals.
- Remind yourself– Put reminders everywhere. In your phone, on your bathroom mirror, on your fridge, on your nightstand. “Crush a workout”, “Marinade steak”, “take time to read”, “Yoga”. Whatever actions are required for you to reach your BIG goals, set them in motion by constantly reminding yourself that they are important.
